Great historical stories of the time with some of the best woodcut artwork engravings ever published in history. The story of interest to lighthouse folks would be “The Light-Houses of theUnited States,” by Charles Nordhoff that includes engravings of Fire Island Lighthouse in New York. Bergen Point Lighthouse in New Jersey, Thimble Shoals Lighthouse, Thatcher’s Island Lighthouse on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, Bodie Island Lighthouse in North Carolina (then called Body’s Island), the long lost beautiful Cleveland Main Lighthouse in Ohio, Spectacle Reef Lighthouse in Michigan, Point Reyes Lighthouse in California, Trinity Shoal Lighthouse in the Gulf of Mexico and Alligator Reef Light in Florida. Also includes a great article on the Farallon Islands and another story by Charles Nordhoff titled, ”The Columbia River and Puget Sound,” that includes a great image of the Point Arena Lighthouse. The spine is coming loose and back cover taped, but could be professionally repairs, but otherwise this is a magnificent copy in good condition considering it is nearly 140 years old.
