Press Photo Browns Point Lighthouse USCG Helicopter Installation
In February of 1970 the Coast Guard used a helicopter to remove and reinstall the 431 pound lens assembly over new quartz-iodide lamps atop the Browns Point light tower. According to the press release issued by the Coast Guard at that time, “The new lamps have a life span of 165 days, compared with the 33 days for the lamps previously used. Although intensity of the new blubs is nearly the same as the older ones, it remains constant throughout the life of the bulb. The older bulbs dimmed with age.” This original press photo appeared in the newspaper on Feb. 26, 1970. It would make a wonderful addition to any lighthouse collection. Sold as-is, it is in good condition.
